Communication Highwire: Leveraging the Power of Diverse Communication Styles

A new book by Basma Ibrahim DeVries (co-author of Cultural Detective: Egypt), Barbara Kappler Mikk (co-author of CD: Estonia), and Dianne Hofner Saphiere (series creator and co-author of CD: Japan), early reviews for Communication Highwire include:

A valuable and much needed contribution to the intercultural literature. The authors do a splendid job of making a vast literature and an array of complex communication concepts accessible through the masterful use of metaphor and storytelling. A wide variety of learning activities allows the reader to work with these ideas and the 'four step method' (reflection, analysis, discussion, decision making) supports the reader in applying them.
R. Michael Paige, University of Minnesota

For those of us engaged in global development, the issues and problems accurately described in Communication Highwire are a major part of our daily challenge. I am so glad to finally find a book which goes beyond the well meaning, often used phrase valuing diversity, and offers simple explanations and practical ideas on improving communication to leverage diversity—a much more valuable concept in effectively working together.

ASTD, Orlando, Florida, "Global Gallery Tour"

June 6 at 4:00, Dianne Hofner Saphiere and Gail Heidenhain will co-present the interactive Accelerated Learning design of the "Global Gallery Tour", initially used by Royal Dutch Shell. The tour will demonstrate how you can raise awareness and create interest in Cultural Diversity programs in your organization. You will participate in an interactive "visit" to three galleries to explore how intercultural effectiveness greatly impacts an organization's productivity and the satisfaction of its employees. You will learn a new technique for helping organizations you work for share knowledge, generate excitement and motivation in large groups in a design that can be facilitated worldwide without using an intercultural expert. For more information on the American Society for Training and Development's International Conference and Exposition, plus details on this session, go to http://www.astd.org/ASTD/conferences/ice/ice05/ice05_home
