Nancy O’Brien is a faculty member and the director of intercultural experiences in the Honors College at the University of Alabama, and has over 20 years of intercultural training and teaching experience in corporate and institutional settings. 

In her role in the Honors College at the University of Alabama, she develops and implements curriculum and programming for new short-term faculty-led programs in global settings, and teaches courses on cultural literacy to undergraduates. Nancy has been an LGBT campus activist throughout her life. She is a certified Cultural Detective® Facilitator and is certified to administer the Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®). 

Nancy holds a PhD in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota, and a MA in International and Intercultural Management from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont, and has also taken several workshops in Personal Leadership, Diversity Training, and Building Cultural Competency. Born in the United States, Nancy has lived and worked in Japan, Germany, England, Egypt, Serbia, Tanzania, New Zealand, and in many parts of the United States.
