Dr. Erla S. Kristjánsdóttir is an assistant professor in the School of Business at the University of Iceland. She merges her background as a corporate trainer with her research and teaching interests to focus on how people from different cultures can work and live peacefully together despite their cultural differences.

Erla’s research and teaching interests include intercultural communication, diversity, and intercultural transitions (adaptation and reentry), and she has presented her research at regional, national, and international conferences. As an author, she has published in leading intercultural and communication journals, and she has also served as a reviewer for research journals.

Extending her research on cultural adaptation, communication and identity to a variety of contexts, Erla has studied these issues within the context of international education, national disasters, and international business. She has conducted research with immigrant groups in Iceland, Katrina victims in the US, and business personnel in multinational organizations.

Erla holds a PhD from Arizona State University, and an MA from University of West Florida. She and her husband have four grown daughters and currently live in Reykjavík where she teaches and enjoys her three grandchildren in her spare time.
