The geographical middle point of Europe and its largest country, Ukraine remains a mystery to the outside world. It's a young nation searching for its identity, and yet the various puzzle pieces that make Ukraine what it is today have a long history and include unique traditions and culture. For centuries the country has been at the crossroads of different cultures, each of which left its distinct mark on Ukrainian history and its people's mentality. In June of 2017 a visa-free program with the EU was introduced, paving the way for Ukraine to become a new EU member in the foreseeable future. Today the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians continue to strive for an independent and democratic society in which the Ukrainian identity can become more defined and protected.
