Gary Althen, M.P.I.A.

Born in Colorado, USA, Gary Althen retired after serving 30 years in the foreign-student office at the University of Iowa. His special interest in intercultural matters is reflected in two of his publications: American Ways: A Guide for Foreigners in the United States, which he wrote, and Learning Across Cultures, which he edited.

Gary has lived and worked in Peru and Malaysia. He has taught or co-taught several courses at the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication, and conducted workshops on intercultural communication for audiences of students, academic staff, professional associations, and business and civic organizations.

In retirement, Gary continues to do some writing and editing.
